The Liverton IPv6 Introductory Seminar is a half day session that introduces IPv6 and includes real world examples. By the end of the seminar you will have an understanding of why IPv6 is being introduced and how it works. This includes:

  • IPv6 Basics – background, facts and explanation
This session will look at the background to the development of the IPv6 standards, and the current specifications. The details of the IPv6 address structure and the mechanics of system configuration will be discussed.
  • IPv6 Transition -approaches to transition from IPv4 to IPv6
This session will cover the need for IPv6 to initially live in an IPv4 world, and to co-exist with the older standard. The various approaches to transition from the existing IPv4 world to the new IPv6 environment will be explained and their strengths and weaknesses discussed.
  • IPv6 Network – network fundamentals
This session will cover the network elements that are required to make IPv6 fully functional, such as routing and name translation. The issues involved with establishing these elements, their interaction with the transition mechanisms to allow interoperation with IPv4, and support for common layer three network protocols (eg HTTP, SMTP) will be covered.
  • IPv6 Demonstrations – practical examples of IPv6 implementation
This session will involve the use of a small test environment that can be configured to illustrate the IPv6 configuration and transition mechanisms discussed previously.
  • IPv6 Basic Certification Test
A short test will be provided to enable participants to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts presented during the seminar. Certificates will be awarded to all who pass.

The course is hosted at the Liverton office in Boulcott Street,Wellington. We have facilities to have 6 people per session and morning or afternoon tea is provided.
