Email Security and Content Management

MailMarshal is a server based SMTP email content scanner that provides security and confidence to an organisation that it can manage the risks presented through an email gateway to the Internet.  It is developed by MarshalSoftware in Auckland, New Zealand, and was voted winner of the 1999 Computerworld Excellence award.

It provides the following benefits to organisations:

• Scrutinises email message content
• Protects against confidentiality breaches
• reduces risks of legal liability through inappropriate email use
• Blocks viruses and SPAM (unwanted commercial email)
• Reduces inappropriate use of email resources
• Provides detailed activity reporting

MailMarshal also provides, as an option, the ability to secure email through the use of S/Mime signatures and encryption.  It can be configured to support gateway to gateway security, gateway to desktop, or desktop to desktop email security.  Note that use of some features requires a suitably configured gateway at the receiving organisation.

The S/Mime option provides the following benefits:

Checking of signed email to ensure that the signature is valid and the message has not been tempered with during transit

Transparent passing of signed email to provide confidence in the authenticity of the sender

Encrypting (and decrypting) email to provide privacy for messages either externally on the Internet or on the internal mail system.
